While a trio of Japan's women wrestlers were left to celebrate medals at the Asian Games, one was ordered to hit the floor and start doing push-ups.
Kyoko Hamaguchi's reward for winning silver at the Doha spectacle on Monday night was a dressing down from her father, former wrestler Heigo Hamaguchi, and a humiliating taste of boot camp life.
In front of bemused passers-by the 28-year-old was ordered to remove the identity pass and silver medal hanging round her neck and lie flat on the blue carpet of the arena to begin her ordeal.
"I was pretty horrified," said Reuters photographer Caren Firouz who witnessed the episode. "I guess it just left me speechless."
Just moments earlier the gym instructor from Tokyo had been sobbing on the podium, the unwanted medal around her neck, having been beaten by China's Wang Xu in the final of the 72kg freestyle division.
